    Vetting & screening

    The Board of Fellows vets and screens your application against the standards for your chosen tier or programme.

    Approval & induction fee

    On approval, you receive a formal offer and settle the applicable induction or programme fee to confirm your place.

    Induction & insignia

    You are formally inducted, receive your certificate and insignia, and may begin using your designation.

Entry Requirements

Routes into the Institute.

There is a pathway for every stage of a management career. Entry requirements vary by route; our advisors can confirm your eligibility before you apply.

Professional Diploma

SSCE plus 2 years' relevant experience

An entry route for those beginning a professional pathway.

Advanced Diploma

HND or BSc plus 1 year's experience

For graduates advancing toward chartered status.

Executive Programmes

5 years' managerial experience

For established managers and senior professionals.

Chartered Management Scientist (CMS)

A degree, 3 years' experience, and 3 examinations

Applications are welcome from qualified professionals at every stage - from graduates seeking their first professional designation to senior leaders seeking chartered fellowship. Every application is assessed on qualifications, experience and endorsement.
Requirements vary by route: a Professional Diploma requires SSCE plus 2 years' experience; an Advanced Diploma requires an HND/BSc plus 1 year; Executive programmes require 5 years' managerial experience; and the Chartered Management Scientist pathway requires a degree, 3 years' experience, and 3 examinations.
The Institute runs three intakes each year - January, May and September. We recommend applying early, as some pathways have limited places.
Yes. Programmes are offered on campus, fully online, or through a hybrid model, so you can study in the format that best fits your career.
Admission to a programme or certification places you on a pathway toward professional membership, from Associate Member (ACIMSA) to Professorial Fellow (PFCIMSA). See our Membership page for the full tier structure.
